Eilean Siar Foodbank opened in September 2013 as a partnership between New Wine Church and the Trussell Trust.  We are very grateful for the help we  receive from other local churches, agencies, and businesses, and the generosity of fellow islanders who donate the food that is distributed to those in need.

The Foodbank is an extension of an emergency food delivery service that the church had been providing across the islands for the previous three years in response to referrals from various agencies.  The opening of the Foodbank has enabled us to reach and assist a wider group of  people who are experiencing a food crisis with a more streamlined service.

In November 2019 our partnership with the Trussell Trust came to an end as the administrative burden had become very difficult to maintain without a full-time manager. We are very grateful to the Trussell Trust for the support they provided over the years and we pray that they will continue to be an effective force in alleviating food poverty nationwide.

Although our partnership with the Trussell Trust ended we continued as Eilean Siar Foodbank and continued to both develop existing and form new partnerships with other local churches and agencies in a combined effort to offer a hand up to individuals and families in our community who are experiencing financial hardship.

During the time of the Covid lockdown we faced new challenges as the demand for the service increased dramatically, creating logistical issues and location moves that kept everyone on their toes.

Thanks to funding received we now have a part-time manager which is doing a great job maintaining  the smooth running of the foodbank.

Also, we are very grateful that the foodbank now has a new and more permanent home in the old Carlton Bar at the corner of Francis Street and Keith Street.

As always, Eileen Siar Foodbank could not continue to operate without the amazing generosity of those who donate food. We are also grateful for our faithful volunteers without whose dedication we could not offer this service. We are continually recruiting volunteer staff and are always open to suggestions re fundraising, etc.
