Jesus said that he was anointed to preach good news to the poor, and to heal the broken-hearted. Every broken heart is the result of a broken relationship, and so we were born with a broken heart because our relationship with God as our Father was severed by the sin of our first parents. However, healing comes when we say yes to Jesus and receive the words of our Father over our lives – “You are the son that I love – I am pleased with you!”
Religion taught us that God wants to see our brokenness over sin, but Jesus revealed to us his desire to heal the brokenness in our lives that has resulted in sin. Jesus didn’t come to expose and condemn us for our sin, but to heal our brokenness and deliver us from our sin.
